For the third consecutive edition The Bahamas will host the IAAF World Relays Championships. The IAAF World Relays is the biggest sporting event ever held in The Bahamas. The event is under the aegis of the International Association of Athletics Federation. For the first time, the IAAF World Relays will be included in the IAAF World Athletics Series of events.
The third staging of the World Relays will take place on April 22nd and 23rd, 2017. The event will be held at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium which has a seating capacity of 15,000. 30,000 spectators are expected to attend the 2017 IAAF World Relays.
This Event will bring the best in the world. It is expected that most medalists from 2016 Rio Olympics will be present. The 2017 IWR will serve as a qualifying competition for the 2017 IAAF World Championships.
The following relay races will be held for both men and women: 4x100m, 4x200, 4x400m, 4x800m. For the first time a mixed gender 4x400m event would be held. A Junior Programme with athletes from The Bahamas will be held both days prior to the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2017.
The Bahamas will have significant television coverage for this Event. Hosting the Event will require 700 event volunteers and 100 organizing committee volunteers.
