English Speaking Caribbean (ECAST) Softball Championship

Not at all would there have been satisfaction in The Bahamas for anything other than a gold medal in the English Caribbean Amateur Softball Tournament that concluded Sunday evening at Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

It is most encouraging, however, that the Bahamas Softball Federation’s (BSF) national men’s team not only won the tournament, but clearly distinguished the locals at a different level. In the championship game, The Bahamas drubbed Aruba 15-2 to complete a perfect 8-0 win/loss record in matches during the tournament.
Pitching is the biggest factor in softball, as is the case in baseball. There is no doubt that The Bahamas’ pitching was far superior to that of the opposing teams. We don’t have the variety of quality pitchers who once tossed the ball for Bahamian national teams, but Lyle Sawyer and company were good enough for ECAST.
