The Bahamas Gears Up for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup Tournament in Nicaragua

The Bahamas is set to compete in the highly anticipated 2025 FIBA (International Basketball Federation) AmeriCup Tournament, scheduled to take place from August 22–31 at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua.

The 12-man roster representing The Bahamas includes a strong blend of seasoned professionals and emerging talent:

  • Franco Miller Jr.
  • Dominick Bridgewater
  • Garvin Clarke Jr.
  • Radshad Davis
  • Kentwan Smith
  • Joshua Dames
  • Sammy Hunter
  • Tavario Miller
  • Isaiah Mobley
  • Kai Jones
  • Jaraun “Kino” Burrows
  • Lathaniel Bastian

Leading the team is Head Coach Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr., a former national team player whose leadership and insight are expected to bring a dynamic edge to the team’s strategy and execution.

During a press conference held at Baha Mar, Moses Johnson, First Vice President of the Bahamas Basketball Federation (BBF), shared his optimism about the squad’s potential.

“The team is stacking up very well. We are pleased with the cadre of talent that we have assembled for this window,” Johnson stated. “We are looking forward to an exciting time. This is always an exciting time for senior men’s basketball, as we have been making strides year after year, being just nine points away from the Olympics. We don’t want to be saying we are nine points away—we want to be marching into Los Angeles in 2028. This is just one step toward our goal.”

A standout name on the roster is Kai Jones, the explosive forward who last played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA. Jones previously made a significant impact during the opening window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers and is expected to bring that same high-level intensity to this tournament.

“He is an exceptional talent,” Johnson added. “Having Kai in the frontcourt with his length and defensive experience—and what he brings offensively—is an added plus. He brings a positive mindset day in and day out. He’s a charismatic kid, not just great in the locker room but on the floor, encouraging the younger guys as well as the veterans. He stabilizes the defense, so we’re looking forward to him having a big tournament.”

The Bahamas will compete in Group A, alongside the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay—a formidable group that will test the team’s growth and resilience on the international stage.

As the team prepares to face elite competition, hopes are high that this tournament will be another strong step toward their ultimate goal: securing a place in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
